Faster, More Targeted Cost Management

Send relevant, timely cost data to the right people at the right time using Slack.

Slack Integration

What Is Slack?

Slack is a messaging app for business that connects people to the information they need. By bringing people together to work as one unified team, Slack transforms the way organizations communicate.

Why Slack + CloudZero?

Effective cloud cost management depends on two key things: allocation and attribution (i.e., what you’re spending and who’s responsible for it). CloudZero answers both questions; Slack helps engage responsible parties in proactive cloud cost management.

Ways To Use The Slack + CloudZero Integration

  • Send AI-driven alerts to the relevant engineer(s) during anomalous spend events
  • Send regular cost reports to teams about how they’re tracking against their budgets
  • Share advanced FinOps analytics data with a defined set of stakeholders
  • Share real-time cost data around specific cloud services (e.g., AWS S3)
  • Let your team know when you’ve revealed and acted on savings opportunities
  • Discuss the appropriate responses to cloud cost anomalies, budgets, reports, etc.

How To Connect Slack

Here’s how to set up the integration:

  • Navigate to CloudZero’s “App Integrations” page under “Settings.”
  • Select “Add to Slack” to launch your Slack workspace.
  • Authorize adding the application to your Slack workspace.
  • After authorizing our app for Slack, you will be redirected to Cloudzero’s “App Integrations” page. Select a Slack channel in which to receive CloudZero notifications. Every organization has a “Global View” that will report on all cloud spend across your entire organization. At any time, CloudZero administrators in your organization can change the Slack channel that these notifications are delivered to by directly editing the Global View or by updating the Slack channel on the “App Integrations” page.

Optional next steps:

  • Send Custom Views to specific Slack channels. In addition to the Global View, you can set up Custom Views that visualize your data through a particular lens (e.g., cost per team). You can then send these Custom Views to Slack channels configured for the people who need the data (e.g., each engineering team).
  • Send messages to a private Slack channel. If you’d like CloudZero to deliver notifications to a private Slack channel, you must first invite the CloudZero app by typing “@CloudZero” in the private channel.

Automatically Detect Cost Spikes

CloudZero Anomalies is an AI-powered system that uses hourly spend data to continuously define “normal” spend, and automatically alert relevant engineers during abnormal spend events. The best part? It trains itself — meaning no manual threshold tuning for you.
